BEND, Ore. – After more than fifteen years performing in one of the most competitive entertainment markets in the country, professional DJ and MC Ethan Svoboda, known professionally as DJ WHIPLSH, has relocated from Los Angeles to Bend, bringing his extensive experience from major-market nightlife and events to Central Oregon’s growing weddings and events industry.

Svoboda spent over a decade and a half building his career in Southern California, where he performed at high-profile nightclubs and private events across Los Angeles. His résumé includes headlining multiple events at Avalon Hollywood and serving as a resident DJ at LAVO Hollywood, two venues recognized for large-scale productions, high-energy crowds, and demanding performance standards.

Now based in Bend, Svoboda is applying that same level of preparation, crowd awareness, and musical versatility to weddings, corporate events, and private celebrations throughout Central Oregon.

“Los Angeles is one of the most competitive live entertainment markets in the world,” Svoboda said. “You learn very quickly how to read a room, adapt on the fly, and manage the energy of large, diverse crowds. Those skills can be quite beneficial in weddings and events, regardless of size.”

From Hollywood to High Desert

Svoboda’s relocation comes at a time when Central Oregon is experiencing increased demand for destination weddings, corporate retreats, and large-scale private events. With venues ranging from mountain resorts and outdoor lodges to private estates and luxury rentals, the region has become an attractive alternative to larger metropolitan markets.

Event planners and couples are increasingly seeking entertainment professionals who bring not only technical skill but also experience managing complex timelines, multiple stakeholders, and diverse guest demographics. Svoboda’s background positions him well to meet this demand.

“In Los Angeles, every event is different,” he said. “You’re constantly balancing client expectations, crowd dynamics, and production logistics. That environment teaches discipline and adaptability, which are valuable for weddings and high-stakes events.”

A Planning-First Approach to Entertainment

Based in Bend, Svoboda now serves events across Bend, Sisters, Redmond, Portland, and surrounding communities, with availability for destination events throughout Oregon. His services include DJ and MC support for weddings, corporate events, and private celebrations, with optional sound and lighting enhancements depending on venue needs.

Rather than focusing solely on performance, Svoboda emphasizes pre-event planning and coordination. He works directly with clients to understand their vision, timeline, and guest experience, helping to make sure the entertainment complements the event rather than overpowering it.

“Every event has a different energy,” Svoboda said. “The goal is to support the moment, not distract from it. When the music and announcements are handled in line with the overall vision, everything flows naturally.”

This planning-first philosophy reflects lessons learned from years of working alongside event producers, venue managers, and production teams in Los Angeles, where coordination is key to successful outcomes.

Collaboration With Local Vendors

Following his move, Svoboda has made collaboration with Oregon-based vendors a priority. He regularly works with Paradox Productions and other local production partners on weddings, corporate functions, and community events.

“Central Oregon has a strong network of talented vendors,” he said. “My goal is to integrate seamlessly with planners, coordinators, and production teams here, and add to what already works.”

That collaborative mindset has resonated with local professionals who value reliability, communication, and adaptability in entertainment partners.

A Musical Foundation Built Over Time

Svoboda’s music career began long before his move to Hollywood. He started as a pianist and drummer, developing a strong understanding of rhythm, structure, and musical dynamics before transitioning into DJ work. That foundation continues to influence his approach, particularly when blending genres or pacing an event.

Over the course of his career, he has performed at hundreds of weddings and private events in addition to nightclub appearances, giving him experience across a wide range of audiences and settings.

“Being a DJ isn’t just about playing songs,” Svoboda said. “It’s about timing, awareness, and knowing when to elevate the energy or pull it back.”

A Lifestyle-Driven Move With Professional Impact

Svoboda recently relocated to Bend after getting married, citing the region’s lifestyle, outdoor access, and growing events industry as key factors in the decision.

“Bend offered the balance we were looking for personally,” he said. “Professionally, it made sense too. The events scene here is growing, and there’s an opportunity to bring a level of experience that’s more commonly found in larger markets.”

With his relocation complete, Svoboda is now accepting bookings throughout Central Oregon and for destination events statewide.
