Tesla has once again run into trouble, as more than a million owners will receive another recall notice in the coming weeks.

The notice

On Tuesday, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration filed a safety recall notice, specifically calling out several of Tesla’s latest models.

The administration explained that these models were on point due to the malfunction of the window’s automatic reversal system after detecting an obstruction.

Another issue that has been raised is when a closing window exerts more force, pinching the driver or passenger before it retracts, increasing the risk of injury.

Recalled models

The Tesla models to be recalled include the Model 3 from 2017 to 2022 and the Models Y, X, and S from 2020 to 2021.

The company has until mid-November to contact vehicle owners and suggest plans to release an OTA software update to fix the problem.

Test problems

According to the Associated Press, Tesla identified the problems during product testing last month.

The September 13 update was then included in the newly built vehicles.

Despite the action, users on Twitter echoed Tuesday’s announcement, saying their vehicles have faced the same problems since 2021.

Previous problems

The announcement marks Tesla’s first safety recall, as the company had previously recalled its vehicles for other issues.

Overheating

Due to an overheating issue, Tesla recalled certain 2021 and 2022 Tesla Model S and X, as well as the 2022 Model 3 and Model Y.

The company said a software bug caused the processors to overheat during fast charging or while charging.

The CPU would also slow down or restart if it got too hot.

Tesla is recalling more than 130,000 cars.

Camera and trunk faults

In 2021, Tesla recalled more than 475,000 vehicles to fix defects in their camera systems and trunks.

Model 3 vehicles manufactured between 2017 and 2020 were prioritized due to repeated concerns about the trunk wearing out the backup camera coaxial cable.

Fully self-driving ADAS

Tesla’s fully autonomous ADAS system has affected nearly 54,000 vehicles, all of which have been plagued with malfunctions that failed to bring the car to a stop at stop signs.

Vehicles were traveling illegally through stop signs at 4-way intersections at up to 5.6 mph.

Software error in the brakes

Last year, 11,704 Tesla electric vehicles were found to be susceptible to “false positive braking.”

The problem with the autopilot software has been reported to lead to collisions with emergency vehicles.
