The internet was electrified when the Marvel Cinematic Universe or MCU dropped the second trailer for the upcoming movie Thor: Love and Thunder. The MCU has dominated the film industry for most of the past decade, with comic book fans and casual fans anticipating what Marvel has to offer next.
When the news was that Taika Waititi would return at the helm of the next Thor film, fans were eager to see what the God of Thunder would do next following his decision to leave earth at the end of Endgame. The first trailer was released last April and featured everything that fans loved about Thor: Ragnarok – the humor, the bright colors, the vintage rock music, and Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster wielding Mjolnir.
Taika Waititi announced on social media that a new trailer would drop during the NBA Eastern Conference finals’ 4th game today, and it immediately electrified the internet.
The second trailer featured more or less the same thing, but with the revelation of the star-studded cast, including Christan Bale’s Gorr the God-Butcher, Russell Crowe’s Zeus, and Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie.
The trailer opens with Waititi’s Korg sitting with children to tell them the tale of Thor Odinson before abruptly pausing to mention there was another God of Thunder – Jane Foster. Although Thor is surprised with his ex showing up in her own armor and the power to wield Mjolnir, the God of Thunder has no time to dwell on the electricity in the air as a new threat comes in the form of Gorr the God-Butcher.
Gorr’s arrival threatens the universe as he has made waves in the universe with his goal of killing all the gods for their selfishness. As a result, Thor, Jane, and Valkyrie set off on an adventure that takes them across space, meeting all sorts of characters, including Zeus.
Thor: Love and Thunder is the 29th movie from the MCU and continues its tradition of holding back details regarding the story. The inclusion of Jane Foster’s Mighty Thor comes straight from the 2014 comics during the Original Sin storyline. It is unknown how much Love and Thunder will take from the story as Jane battled cancer before the use of Mjolnir perpetuated her cancer.
