Marcelo’s 16-year career with Real Madrid has come to an end after the Brazilian became their most decorated player. His recent 1—0 victory over Liverpool on Saturday.

Marcelo has been one of the best left backs in modern soccer for years, but it’s hard to come by playing time these days. He made 12 appearances across 39 games last season during the 2020-2021 campaign.

Marcelo’s decline has been noticeable since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo in 2018. Many people speculated he missed having a partner like this to share his time at Madrid with, but regardless Marcelo is still an important part among the club’s greats.

“It is a wonderful moment in my life. I close my cycle here in the best club in the world,” Marcelo told supporters over the trophy celebrations in the Spanish capital on Sunday. “Today is not a day of sadness, but a day of joy because we have once again won the best championship in the world. I am very proud of myself, and so is my family. We have lived many magical nights together. I tell you one thing, the future of Madrid is very good with the young players. Hala Madrid.”

Despite his time at the club ending, Marcelo assured supporters by saying that his relationship with the club remains intact, and he would still play a role in the future.

Marcelo has been a mainstay of Real Madrid’s defense for more than ten years. He made his debut in 2007 and now plays as captain, inheriting the armband from Sergio Ramos last year after contract talks led to an exit from French club Paris St Germain last season

The defender was an important part of the team’s success, often playing forward when needed and helping Cristiano Ronaldo get more goals. He also had a key role in defense by disrupting oppositions backlines with his veteran presence Marcelo won three finals for Champions League under Zinedine zidane

Marcelo has won it all, picking up 25 trophies along the near-two decades run with Real Madrid. A truly iconic figure in Spanish football history and one of its most successful players ever to grace these shores he will be remembered for generations yet unborn as an awesomely ability footballer who leaves behind him a magnificent legacy at club level but also across international borders where so many people around world now know our country’s name.
