When Shazam came out in 2019, it was sure to stir up speculation about Black Adam appearing in a sequel. Most fans had been fan-casting Dwayne Johnson as the stoic anti-hero for years now and seeing him officially cast has definitely made them happy.
This year, the trailer finally broke out and released a whole host of new details about Black Adam.
The trailer starts with a voiceover speaking to Adam as a jet flies over mountains, taking the anti-hero into a facility where he is placed in a pod.
The audience is shown a glimpse into the life of Adam before his rise to power. He is then seen surrounded in an ancient cave by modern day soldiers, which he easily takes care of.
The next scene shows a jet carrying what can only be presumed to be other members of the Justice Society, introducing Aldis Hodge’s Hawkman and Noah Centineo’s Atom to the mainstream media in a city-wide battle.
Hawman and Black Adam’s exchange is an uncompromising, ruthless portrayal that shows Black Adam will kill for what he believes necessary.
The trailer ends on an upbeat note with a brief comic relief moment that lightens the mood before showcasing just how invulnerable and powerful Black Adam is.
“This is a character with amazing abilities,” said producer Hiram Garcia last year. “He has super speed, can fly, and has world-breaking strength, to name a few. We wanted to make sure moviegoers feel that throughout the entire movie. You’re not going to see him use super speed just once, and then it stops, this is part of his arsenal. It’s common to see abilities fall to the wayside when dealing with characters like that, but one of our many goals was to keep continuity there and push the bar in terms of how we do it.”
“This guy is an absolute force of nature. A force of nature that dishes out justice the way he wants,” Garcia continued. “We mean it when we say the hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is going to change. When Black Adam arrives, everything’s going to change.”
The DC Extended Universe has been a major player in Hollywood for years and this year’s addition of Black Adam will not disappoint fans. The film follows Dwayne Johnson as the titular anti-hero under the direction of Jaume Colette-Serra with an expected release date later this October 21st.
