Adult Swim: Adult Swim has decided to cut ties with voice actor Justin Roiland after learning that he has been accused of felony domestic assault in California.
Despite the fact that Roiland had a significant role in the development and continuation of Rick and Morty, the TV network made the critical choice without hesitation.
The news
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Marie Moore, senior VP of communications for Adult Swim and Cartoon Network, affirmed the allegations:
“Adult Swim has ended its association with Justin Roiland.”
The program will continue without Roiland, according to a tweet from the official Rick and Morty Twitter account.
“Rick and Morty will continue,” the tweet said. “The talented and dedicated crew are hard at work on Season 7.”
Adult Swim
Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim is a late-night television block that mostly features animated programs geared for adults.
The block, which made its debut in 2001, has gained popularity for its eclectic and occasionally avant-garde programming, which combines original series, purchased series, and feature films.
The most well-liked programs that have aired on Adult Swim include:
- Rick and Morty
- Boondocks
- Aqua Teen Hunger Force
- The Venture Bros
The programming on this block is renowned for its eccentric comedy as well as its adult themes and visuals.
Adult Swim has a reputation for developing a strong feeling of community among its fans due to the fact that numerous of its episodes have become cultural phenomena and have generated merchandising, fan art, and even live events.
All things considered, Adult Swim serves as both a venue for viewers searching for something unique and out of the ordinary as well as a platform for animators to explore and push the limits of animated television.
Roiland
Justin Roiland’s voice parts will be recast now that Rick and Morty’s renewal is official.
Roiland has been regarded as a co-creator of the program ever since its premiere.
Dan Harmon will be the only showrunner left after his departure.
Rick and Morty will show through season 10 as already announced.
While departing, Justin Roiland is also contributing to other projects.
For instance, he voices the main character in the Hulu comedy Solar Opposites.
In addition, he produces and lends his voice to the January 9 film Koala Man.
Roiland also has a contract with 20th Television Animation.

The charges
According to reports, Justin Roiland was charged with the following on January 12:
- One count of domestic battery with corporal injury
- One count of false imprisonment by menace, violence, fraud, or deceit
According to the unnamed woman Roiland was seeing at the time, the accusations are tied to an alleged event from 2020.
He filed a not guilty plea in 2020 and was freed after posting a $50,000 bail.
Roiland has participated in several pretrial hearings since that time.
On April 27, he’s expected to appear in court.
According to his lawyer T. Edward Welbourn, the media attention throughout the preceding month. hasn’t been fair.
“To be clear, not only is Justin innocent, but we also have every expectation that this matter is on course to be dismissed once the district attorney’s office has completed its methodical review of the evidence.”
Replacement
Rick and Morty must now find voices for the two main characters as well as other recurring characters since Adult Swim severed ties with Justin Roiland.
Following the announcement of the departure, a number of casting ideas were offered online.
Many Twitter users poked fun of Chris Pratt’s Super Mario casting while also suggesting him for the part.
Others offered Charlie Day and Danny DeVito to play the two key protagonists.
Another individual suggested putting Pratt’s Rick and Morty together with Tom Holland.
The show’s progress
Since season 3, the program’s popularity has been slowly falling.
For instance, less than 600,000 US viewers each night watched the episodes of the sixth season on average.
If viewing numbers continue to decline, Rick and Morty may be canceled.
Since Rick’s traits have dominated the series for more than 10 years, their removal may be a sign that Rick and Morty are in their final season.
