The earth is valuable, and it’s important to protect it. There are so many ways to practice sustainability daily, but recycling is something that you can do anywhere. Not only is it a great way to give back to the environment, but it’s not something that takes much effort. However, one big challenge regarding recycling at the household level is getting all the accurate information. Unfortunately, there are no universal recycling laws or guidelines across the United States, so taking matters into your own hands is necessary. Researching and being proactive about recycling will help keep the earth happy and healthy. A little work needs to be put in to kickstart an era of sustainability.

However, recycling happens more than you think, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for improvement. EverestLabs.ai is one company that has revolutionized the recycling industry, and they recently conducted a survey to study consumers’ recycling habits. Their survey results show that out of 1,000 respondents from across the United States, 40.7% say they recycle daily. These numbers are great, and for the sake of the environment, it’s important to increase them as much as possible.

The key to becoming a master at household recycling is to do a little extra research on what can be recycled in your area. You might think some things are recyclable, but this could cause issues for recycling manufacturers. Sharp objects, electronic waste, and batteries are all household items that can disrupt production. However, most daily items like coffee pods, pizza boxes, and paperback books can be recycled. It’s always important to do your research because some items must be stripped down before heading off to the recycling manufacturers.

Education is the ultimate life hack to becoming an expert recycler. Far too often, people just throw things in the recycling bin because they are unaware of what can be recycled. This can sometimes contaminate other recyclable materials, adding to the overall waste production that harms the environment. Recycling aims to reduce waste, so it’s important to ensure it’s being done properly.

“We must protect the environment and ensure that the recycling process operates as efficiently as possible. ‘Wishcycling’ happens when people place an item into the recycling bin without knowing whether it can be recycled. This creates more work for sorting manufacturers, can sometimes contaminate actual recyclable materials, and can cause equipment damage resulting in plant downtime,” says JD Ambati, Founder & CEO of EverestLabs

When recycling is done accurately and efficiently, it wonders for the environment. Americans throw away nearly 4.5 pounds of trash daily, with annual totals rounding to 268 million tons. These numbers prove just how big of a problem waste production is and highlight the need for recycling. Both manufacturers and households are responsible for practicing sustainability and recycling. It is easier than ever for people at home to implement these practices into their daily routines because it takes a little research and then putting those thoughts into action.

Waste sitting in landfills harms not only the soil people step on but also the air people breathe. There are adverse effects associated with waste production, so taking these easy steps is a way to give back to the environment before it’s too late. When people at home start recycling, it will hopefully kickstart a sustainability movement that will be passed down for generations. The more people recycle, the better off the environment will be. How can you take the extra steps towards a sustainable future?
