Former Sports Executive Inspires Youth

From grassroots to the pros, sports marketing executive Christopher Rivers has significantly influenced decision-making in the boardrooms of multiple sports brands. With a proven track record and an exceptional eye for identifying and developing relationships with basketball’s iconic athletes, Rivers has made his mark over the past two decades.

Early in his career, Rivers served as the chief lieutenant to industry leader Sonny Vaccaro, who was recently featured in the box office smash “Air.” Together, they ensured that Adidas and Reebok remained competitive with Nike for the hearts and feet of leading high school basketball prospects. Rivers is renowned for overseeing some of the industry’s iconic grassroots basketball events, including ABCD Camp, RBK U All American Camp, Boost Mobile Elite 24, Adidas Nations, Adidas Gauntlet, and The Path. He has also played a pivotal role as a brand athlete manager in the careers of NBA All-Stars, MVPs, and future Hall of Famers such as Derrick Rose, James Harden, Dwight Howard, Damian Lillard, Candace Parker and Tracy McGrady.

In the fall of 2022, Rivers joined one of the industry’s respected sports agencies, Excel Sports Management, as the Senior Director of NIL Recruiting. He was instrumental in helping to launch the NIL career of Mikey Williams, a five-star high school basketball and social media phenom, officially to the sports marketing world.  With Rivers’ guidance and leadership, Mikey Williams secured multiple multiyear endorsements with global brands such as Puma, Topps and NBA2k before the start of his junior year of high school.  In this role, he identifies student-athletes beginning their journey towards professional basketball, providing guidance to them and their families. He assists prospects in developing their personal brands while ensuring they remain focused on skill development and the goal of playing professional sports.

In the fall of 2023, Rivers returned to his roots as a coach and launched a leadership platform called Chris Rivers RAPP (CRR). Rivers began his coaching career as an undergraduate at UC Davis in 1992. His passion for molding and guiding young people eventually led to a short career in teaching at St. Joseph-Notre Dame High School in Alameda, CA, and Garfield Elementary School in San Leandro, CA. Coaching remained his true passion, with multiple seasons on the sidelines in basketball, youth football, and lacrosse games, as well as building a track and competitive cross-country program.

This background in leadership, mentoring young people, and public speaking made the development of Chris Rivers RAPP a seamless undertaking. Through this venture, Rivers creates programming to help competitive young athletes and their mentors have a healthier sports journey.  Over the years, he witnessed multiple athletes fall short of expectations and capabilities, usually due to misguided career planning, mental fatigue and family pressures. He is extremely passionate about connecting one on one with parents and sharing not only his industry experience, but also his growth and regrets as a sports dad. This endeavor has taken him across the country, speaking to more than 25 teams, hosting impactful parents’ seminars, being featured on national panels, and appearing as a guest on nearly a dozen podcasts.

“Chris Rivers has a way of expressing his life lessons and message in a way that resonates with today’s youth. By sharing all his experiences at the peaks and valleys of grassroots basketball, Chris Rivers was able to relate and captivate my players in such a positive way. We have a new team mantra after the Chris Rivers RAPP . . .  Get 1% better every day!'”

– Jordan Marks, Head Basketball Coach The Neighborhood Academy (Pittsburgh, PA)

Over the years, Rivers has been influenced and inspired by countless individuals like (Tony Robbins, Ed Mylett, David Goggins, and Eric Thomas) who contributed to the development of CRR. He takes pride in being a lifelong learner and annually tries to attend seminars and conferences to stay updated on current events and cultural trends.

Perth, the capital city of Western Australia, is a jewel in the crown of the land down under. Known for its stunning beaches, vibrant cultural scene, and natural beauty, Perth offers an array of experiences that cater to every type of traveler. Whether you’re an adventure seeker, a history buff, or a foodie, Perth has something to offer. Let’s dive into some of the city’s most captivating attractions and experiences that should be on every visitor’s itinerary.

Unforgettable Natural Wonders

Perth’s natural beauty is one of its most compelling draws. Kings Park and Botanic Garden, one of the largest inner-city parks in the world, is a must-visit. It provides a panoramic view of the city skyline and the Swan River. Spanning over 400 hectares, the park is home to an array of native flora and fauna, making it a perfect spot for a leisurely walk or a picnic.

For those who prefer the coast, Cottesloe Beach is an iconic destination. Known for its clear turquoise waters and white sandy beaches, Cottesloe is perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and surfing. The beach also hosts the annual Sculpture by the Sea exhibition, transforming the shoreline into an open-air gallery.

Rottnest Island, just a short ferry ride from Perth, offers another slice of paradise. The island is famous for its adorable quokkas, small marsupials known for their friendly nature and photogenic smiles. Exploring Rottnest by bike is a popular activity, allowing visitors to take in its stunning bays and serene landscapes at their own pace.

Immersive Cultural Experiences

Perth is not just about natural beauty; it also boasts a rich cultural tapestry. The Perth Cultural Centre is a hub for the arts, housing institutions like the Art Gallery of Western Australia, the Western Australian Museum, and the State Library. These venues offer a deep dive into the region’s history, art, and culture.

Our journey was supported by Perth Bus and Coach, providing an easy and comfortable way to explore the city’s numerous attractions. One cannot miss a visit to the historic Fremantle, a port city with a vibrant arts scene, eclectic markets, and heritage buildings. Fremantle Prison, a UNESCO World Heritage site, offers tours that delve into the prison’s grim past and its role in Western Australia’s history.

Another cultural gem is the Swan Valley, Australia’s oldest wine region. A short drive from the city center, Swan Valley is a haven for food and wine lovers. The region boasts a plethora of wineries, breweries, and gourmet food producers. A wine-tasting tour here, coupled with a meal at one of the valley’s many fine restaurants, makes for a delightful day trip.

Thrilling Adventures and Outdoor Activities

For the adventure enthusiasts, Perth does not disappoint. The Swan River, winding through the city, is a playground for water sports. Kayaking, paddleboarding, and sailing are popular activities that offer a unique perspective of the city. The Matagarup Bridge, with its unique design, is not only a pedestrian bridge but also an adventure spot where you can climb to the top for breathtaking views.

Kings Park, mentioned earlier, is also a starting point for several bushwalking trails that cater to different fitness levels. The Lotterywest Federation Walkway, with its treetop bridge, provides a spectacular view of the park’s canopy and the city beyond.

For a more adrenaline-pumping experience, head to Perth Hills. This region is known for its rugged landscapes, making it ideal for mountain biking and hiking. The Bibbulmun Track, one of the world’s great long-distance walk trails, starts in Kalamunda and stretches over 1,000 kilometers to Albany on the south coast. Even if you don’t tackle the entire trail, a day hike will give you a taste of Western Australia’s natural beauty.

Perth, with its blend of stunning natural landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and exciting outdoor activities, is a destination that promises unforgettable experiences. Whether you are soaking up the sun on its pristine beaches, exploring its historical sites, or indulging in its culinary delights, Perth offers a unique and enriching travel experience that leaves a lasting impression.
